The service we received from the staff here was unparalleled. They were all really good and friendly. The restaurant staff in particular; Packiaraj, Abishek and Jotheswran were very attentive and helpful, they humored our questions about Madurai culture and food, and were very accommodating to my brother who has sensory issues. The grounds of the hotel are really peaceful despite the clamour of the city outside. There are large trees providing ample shade and we enjoyed cycling around the compound with bicycles borrowed from the hotel. It was also nice to see the short cultural show they have at 8pm. Apparently the hotel has classes for locals to learn the nearly forgotten indian martial art of silambam, and they have the show to showcase their learning. At the end of the show, they invited us to learn some basic moves with them. The room was big and clean. The beds were very comfortable. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

We are a semi retired couple, away from home for a month, who needed a base allowing us to both explore Madurai and to relax before the next phase of our trip began in Sri Lanka. The Heritage Madurai was perfect for our needs as we arrived on the overnight train from Bengaluru. On one of our days we explored the amazing Menakshee temple and its surrounds, but on the other two days we relaxed in the lovely grounds and poolside, catching up with emails and our reading. The small gym was nicely equipped and the traditional style pool is delightful. The onsite restaurant and bar made it unnecessary to leave the premises - very unusual for us. The buffet menus encouraged culinary experimentation. We stayed in one of the plunge pool units - a self-indulgent extravagance. And yes - the short flight from Madurai to Colombo was very convenient.

The Heritage is an "oasis of calm" in the congested/ crowded/ polluted/ dusty city of Madurai. Located on one of the main roads about 3km from the main Meenakshi temble, the Hotel has spacious and well manicured grounds with an 'old world' charm. There are lots of trees, lawns and gardens. The "Luxury cottage" room was very spacious with a private plunge pool and a large washroom/ bath area. The beds were comfortable as well. The Restaurant offers a buffet at night - which was quite good and so was the variety at breakfast. All this for Rs 9000/- is excellent value for money. They also have a Spa offering Ayurvedic massage treatments which we took and enjoyed. Staff are well trained and courteous. All in all, a must stay hotel when you visit IXM (Madurai).

This was a great surprise for my first time visit to Madurai. Indeed, the hotel is a landmark for Madurai's great history and culture. The rooms are fantastic, colonial style, Restaurant gives a tasty lip-smacking breakfast and lunch/dinner, the big pond ?? a swimming pool is a great place to hang out. Me and my wife went for a walk inside the premises and felt it our own home. There is a temple inside and we had the blessings of the pujari there. The traditional kuthu velaku were kept in the evening for the guest to light. It is a splendid gesture and makes us feel among the locals. The live act and display of martial arts by the staff was splendid. Full marks to the hotel and staff.

This is a beautiful and exceptional heritage hotel, modelled some years ago by the late Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. He has done justice to it and the staff continue the tradition. Nothing - absolutely nothing - is too much trouble for them. We had a suite with a private pool and it was glorious. Our young adult kids had a twin - also lovely. The breakfasts were marvellous and the buffet dinner we had on our first night was great. The hotel is set in the most wonderful gardens and has a magnificent granite pool - what a gem it all is. Stay there - it's a bargain for what you get.
